Biografie Anton Hölzel

Antonie “Anton” Hölzel was born on 7 May 1909 in Deventer to a working-class family of social democrats. In September 1941 he was arrested for possession of a banned newspaper. Hölzel was taken to the Amersfoort transit camp and registered as a political prisoner. From there, he was deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he arrived on 31 March 1942. In June 1944 he was transported to the Neuengamme concentration camp and in November 1944 he was assigned to look after the 20 children on whom Heißmeyer was conducting his experiments. He was murdered on Bullenhuser Damm on 20 April 1945.
